Forget SOTU, It’s free speech, stupid.
There’s no straighter line to destroying independent thought than to make people afraid to speak. The Obama administration has been nudging its way toward this goal since the rise of townhalls and the Tea Party.
The tyranny of the ‘civility’ campaign began in earnest at last February’s National Prayer Breakfast after all attempts by the White House and the mainstream media to anesthetize the awakened giant failed. The President used the word 9 times in that speech and drew the battle lines for any future opposition: Now it’s ‘working together,’ the theme of his State of the Union address.
After a madman injured and killed innocent assemblers in Tucson last week, the media launched a barbarous attack of its own. Videos, maps, conversations, regional phrases, political adversaries and grassroots groups like the Tea Party became the enemies of the State. The Tucson massacre put flesh on the President’s call “to find our way back to civility.”
Now the latest tactic: a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Friday, less than a week after the killings, indicated that 72% of Americans believe the Republicans and Democrats should sit together at the State of the Union. Mark Udall is credited with the symbolic gesture that reduces members of Congress to children who must learn to ‘play nice.’
Even Republican House majority leader Eric Cantor likes the idea stating that it “may be the first step’ to true bipartisanship. The sight of Al Franken sitting with Rand Paul at the SOTU gathering was straight out of Alice in Wonderland, but bizarre events have occurred ever since BHO took office.
This administration is engaged in a crusade to harness political figures like Cantor to the civility myth. Why? Because the opinions of ordinary Americans openly shouted from the public square had an electrifying effect two years ago, culminating in the November 2 election. A revolution to ‘’fundamentally transform’” this country will not succeed if a counter revolution gains momentum.
Unable to use outright force, the administration has relied on the massive untruths spewed by the mainstream media to widen the divide between opposing parties and individuals. The leftist media will even eat their own in service of the present administration. NPR fired Juan Williams for uttering a harmless opinion and MSNBC has just coughed up Keith Olberman as a sacrificial lamb to prove they can be ‘civil’ too.
Eventually, with all this fake togetherness and Obama imposed civility, Americans will either rebel or melt into the collective without a whimper.
